Trying to eliminate all problems, I asked him if he would mind fitting another scope in a bid to see if perhaps the scope is faulty which he agreed to, he then fitted a Lynx 4-16x40 and zerod it. He then seperated the barrel from the stock and told me that there is no pressure point that he can observe, he then reassembled the barrel and stock and went to the range which is 25m where he fired 3 shots 1st was 10cm away from the other 2 which inturn was 3cm apart from one another. I think might have solved the problem yesterday afternoon, not knowing whether it is the rifle or the scope, I went to a qualified gunsmith in Vanderbijlpark where I stay who has a indoor range on their premisses and explained my problem to him. Hi, I was using PMP Pro am 170g ammo and a Nikon 6-18x40 Fieldmaster scope which I bought on Saturday at a gunshop in Vereeniging, they also mounted it and zerod it. thenįire 5 rounds (all with cold barrel) and clean barrel thoroughly.

I goes a little something like this:įire 3 rounds (all with cold barrel) and clean barrel thoroughly.

There is also a procedure for shooting in a new barrel, according to a bench rest shooter friend of mine. Working my own load and now reloading has not only solved my problem, but it's also fun to do and gives me a sense of achievement when I shoot a good group! One should definitely wait to let the barrel cool before each shot and get someone (who you trust is a good shot) to also shoot to confirm that you are not flinching and the group you get is true! In short I now shoot a 1/2 MOA at 100m, and now I'm happy :to:įree floating and glass bedding might solve yr problem (and most certainly will help), but sometimes your rifle just doesn't like the particular round that you are using. My new load now has a 1mm jump, using 150gr Hornady GMX, length = 83mm, 55.5gr S365. I have worked a load for my rifle and it likes it. I solved the problem by doing/working my own load. I was shooting 180gr factory ammunition, with a 4-6" group at 100m (myself and 4 other friends shot the same result to confirms this, to my disbelief) I had a very similar problem with my Ruger 30-06.
